Argentina’s President Milei Plans UK Visit in Spring Amid Diplomatic Talks
Javier Milei is set to travel to Britain in April or May next year as diplomatic engagement with the United Kingdom continues
Argentina’s President Javier Milei is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom in either April or May next year, his office has confirmed, marking a significant step in diplomatic engagement between Buenos Aires and London.
The announcement follows reports that Milei has begun discussing issues of mutual interest with British officials, including possible dialogue on longstanding defence policy matters that date back to the Falkland Islands dispute.
While specific agenda details and meeting counterparts have not yet been disclosed, a spokesman for the Argentine president said preparations are under way for the trip, which would be the first by an Argentine head of state to the UK in decades.
Milei has maintained that Argentina should pursue sovereignty claims over the Falkland Islands, known locally as the Islas Malvinas, through diplomatic channels rather than conflict, and has previously linked such broader foreign policy objectives to deeper engagement with key partners.
British authorities have responded to related comments by Milei by saying there are no formal talks underway on revising weapons export restrictions established after the 1982 conflict, emphasising the United Kingdom’s commitment to the islands’ right to self-determination and continued cooperation on trade, science and cultural links.
Milei’s planned visit is expected to underscore bilateral ties and offer opportunities for high-level dialogue, potentially including discussions with the UK prime minister and other senior figures.
As both governments look to strengthen cooperation, the trip reflects wider diplomatic efforts on issues ranging from trade and defence to technological and cultural exchange between Argentina and the United Kingdom.
