LONDON: On June 1, 2024, thousands of supporters of British anti-Islam campaigner Tommy Robinson gathered in central London, chanting anti-Muslim slogans.
English actor Laurence Fox joined Robinson in leading the protest.
Participants held banners reading 'This is London, not Londonistan' and chanted 'We want our country back.' Robinson, speaking on stage, expressed gratitude to the Metropolitan Police for 'staying out of our way.' Nearby, nine pro-Palestinian activists from Youth Demand were arrested for breaching Public Order Act conditions.
Nick Lowles, CEO of Hope Not Hate, warned of violent threats from hooligan chat groups against people of color and demonstrators.
Scotland Yard and Metropolitan Police Commander Louise Puddefoot issued statements about the potential fear and uncertainty caused among Muslim communities by the protest and affirmed a zero-tolerance approach to hate crimes.
