A Metropolitan police officer, PC Connor Jones, has been found guilty of gross misconduct for placing a Taser to the neck of Jamar Powell, a black teenager, during a stop-and-search in Greenwich, south-east London, in September 2020.
Powell, who was 16 at the time, was forced to kneel in the street during a search for a suspect believed to be armed with a samurai sword.
Despite the disciplinary panel's conclusion, Jones retains his job and received a final written warning.
The incident left Powell, now 20, traumatized and distrustful of the police.
Video evidence contradicted Jones’s claim of not pressing the Taser against Powell's neck.
The Met Police initially cleared officers but was later overruled by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), leading to damages and an apology issued to Powell.
