Zelensky Shuffles Security Leadership Amid War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made significant changes to the country's security leadership, dismissing the National Security Council's secretary, Oleksiy Danilov, without providing a reason.

This action comes more than two years into Russia's invasion and follows last month's military command overhaul. Zelensky appointed Oleksandr Lytvynenko, the previously low-profile head of the foreign intelligence service, in Danilov's place. This council plays a crucial role in coordinating national security and defense efforts.

Amid these changes, Ukraine continues its struggle against Russian forces, facing challenges in military support from the U.S. due to political resistance and concerns over its defensive capabilities and manpower against a larger Russian population.

Furthermore, Zelensky named Oleh Ivashchenko, a deputy in the military intelligence agency with a similarly low public profile, as the new head of foreign intelligence. This reshuffle follows the February replacement of the armed forces chief and a broader refresh of military leadership.
