A fresh inquest into the death of Yousef Makki, a schoolboy who was stabbed to death by a friend, has concluded that he was unlawfully killed. Yousef, 17, died in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester, in 2019.
The High Court quashed the conclusions of the first inquest in 2021. The coroner, Geraint Williams, questioned much of the previous evidence and concluded that Yousef did not have a knife at the time of his death, and his friend Joshua Molnar had not acted in self-defense.
Molnar was cleared of murder and manslaughter but jailed for carrying a knife in public and perverting the course of justice. Yousef's family welcomed the new conclusion and called it justice, while the police said they would carefully review the ruling.
