This followed the U.S. reclassifying the group as a terrorist organization. Despite claims of targeting a U.S. ship, a maritime risk firm clarified that the impacted vessel was a Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier.

The UK's maritime security agency reported that the drone strike caused a fire, which was later extinguished; the ship and crew are reportedly safe.

The incident took place southeast of Aden's port, with the UKMTO urging caution for vessels in the area. The Houthis, promising further attacks, stated their actions were in self-defense and solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Abdelsalam, a Houthi spokesman, also declared their intention to target Israeli and allied ships, reinforcing the group's stance after the U.S. terrorist designation.

The Houthis have threatened to retaliate if the U.S. or Britain carry out new strikes in Yemen, amidst ongoing air strikes in response to their maritime threats. The attacks are said to support Palestinians against Israel.
