He is now the record holder for the longest time to complete a university degree.

Ross was initially interested in pursuing a degree in English but soon became fascinated with theater.

He spent as much time as possible in the theater department and crossed paths with renowned Canadian actors.

However, he left UBC to complete a three-year program at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal.

After realizing that acting may not be his calling, he went to law school and spent 35 years as a civil litigator before retiring in 2016.

He then became a part-time student at UBC, focusing on history, with a particular interest in the First World War.

Ross is grateful to the students who accepted him and said that pursuing his history degree was a revelation in understanding the sordid nature of Canadian history.
