We won't go back to 2018, says Canadian envoy in Saudi Arabia

Canadian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Jean-Philippe Linteau, announced the resumption of direct flights between Jeddah and Toronto, starting in December, signaling a renewed phase in Canada-Saudi relations beyond the state of affairs in 2018.

This development follows the resolution of a diplomatic rift that lasted nearly five years and ended with an understanding between Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2022.

Linteau, working closely with Saudi Ambassador Amal Al-Moallimi in Ottawa, aims to strengthen bilateral relations focusing on trade and investment, global peace and stability, and supporting Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.

This includes reactivating scholarships for Saudi students in Canadian universities and encouraging Canadian companies to engage in major Saudi projects.

The ambassador also emphasized the cultural and social changes in Saudi Arabia, particularly highlighting opportunities for women and recognizing Jeddah as a significant commercial hub.

Linteau plans to explore various regions of Saudi Arabia to better understand the country's diversity and collaboration potential.
