Vodafone Germany plans to slash 2,000 jobs as part of a 400 million euro cost-saving initiative over the next two years.

This decision is linked to a global strategy unveiled nearly a year prior, aiming to eliminate around 11,000 positions worldwide.

The job reductions will be achieved through efficiencies and the shift towards automation of manual processes. The revamp will also involve updating outdated IT systems to contribute significantly to the savings.

Despite the cuts, Vodafone assures increased investments in promising sectors like cloud services and the corporate client segment. This restructuring comes as the company faces challenges in markets like Spain and Italy, leading to the sale of its Italian business to Swisscom.

In a recent strategic move, Vodafone Germany appointed Ahmed Essam, formerly of Vodafone UK, as the new Executive Chairman Germany and Chief Executive of European Markets, replacing Philippe Rogge.
