Pamela Reed deceived her community by presenting her daughter, falsely claimed to be a blind cancer patient, to raise funds for non-existent medical expenses.

Local child services exposed the scam. Reed, facing theft by deception charges, which could result in up to 18 months in jail, convinced organizations to give thousands, with one donating $8,000.

She staged photos of her daughter undergoing treatment and admitted to shaving the child's head to bolster the lie, resulting in the child missing over 280 hours of school.

The deception was revealed when a school nurse noticed the child was not blind, and had no cancer, contrary to the mother's claims.

Reed confessed during questioning and is now held on a $50,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 16. Authorities encourage the community to report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.
