With memories not resurfacing after five years, doctors are doubtful they will return. Kim Denicola of Louisiana experienced this stark amnesia, forgetting her marriage and children; the last memory was high school in 1980.

Diagnosed with transient global amnesia, the cause remains unclear. Now a grandmother, she's relearning her family's lives and focusing on creating new memories.

Denicola is embracing life post-amnesia and is determined to reunite her family for a shared Christmas celebration. Transient global amnesia is often linked to physical stress or migraines and is more common in middle-aged or older adults.
