US Woman Accused of Poisoning Husband with Fentanyl Searched for Info on Luxury Prisons and Life Insurance Claims

A US woman accused of killing her husband searched the internet for information about Utah's penitentiaries and "luxury prisons for the rich in America." The woman, Kouri Richins, is also accused of poisoning her husband Eric Richins with a lethal dose of fentanyl in March 2022.

During her detention hearing, details of her Google searches emerged, including searches about how long life insurance companies take to pay claims and how investigators can see deleted messages.

Richins' defence attorney claims she was simply researching her case to see how evidence is processed.

The judge called Richins a "substantial danger" to society and ordered her to remain behind bars.

Eric Richins' sister made a victim impact statement, saying her brother died under "horrendous circumstances" and that Richins should not profit from her husband's death.

Richins wrote a children's book about grief after her husband's death.

The article reports on the case of a man who died from an overdose of fentanyl, which was administered to him by his girlfriend, Ms. Richins.

The court documents reveal that Ms. Richins obtained hydrocodone pills and later requested something stronger.

She obtained more fentanyl after two weeks, and the couple had a Valentine's Day dinner after which the man fell sick.

He later died from the overdose.
