A US Senator passionately opposed Arizona's restrictive abortion laws during a speech on the Senate floor, sharing her personal experience with a medically necessary abortion.

Eva Burch, 43, a freshman Democrat and former women's health nurse, recounted her fertility struggles, including a miscarriage, to illustrate the harsh realities of the state's policies.

Insisting that lawmakers have no right to dictate universal rules for abortion, Burch revealed that in a previous pregnancy, doctors delayed terminating the non-viable fetus until her life was at risk.

Arizona currently has a 15-week abortion ban, and there's a possibility of reviving an older law that could ban all abortions unless the life of the pregnant individual is threatened.

Democrats have proposed bills to protect the right to abortion until approximately 24 weeks and in emergency health situations but have not been granted committee hearings.
