US: San Francisco will require full vaccination for indoor activities

San Francisco will require proof of full immunization for all customers and employees.
San Francisco will require proof of complete vaccination against COVID-19 for some indoor activities such as going to restaurants, bars or gyms.

"Many San Francisco businesses are already leading the way by requiring vaccination testing for their customers because they care about the health of their employees, their customers and this city," Mayor London Breed said in a statement. The order will go into effect Monday, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The order will be stricter than the one announced last week by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. San Francisco will require proof of full vaccination for all customers and employees, while New York will require proof of at least one dose for indoor activities.

In addition to the printed certificates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that people receive when they get vaccinated, California has established an online registry with a barcode so that vaccinated people can prove their status.

Los Angeles is considering a similar measure that requires people to have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before visiting restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters and other enclosed places. City leaders voted Wednesday to ask city attorneys to define the details.

The announcement was made a day after Governor Gavin Newsom reported that all public and private school employees in California will either have to show proof that they were vaccinated or have to be tested weekly.

Breed is expected to announce the order Thursday at the Vesuvio Cafe historic site in North Beach, a hangout for beat poets. The cafe was already asking diners to show proof of vaccination to eat inside.
