This recent incident is part of an ongoing series of maritime attacks by the Houthis, with 23 illegal actions reported since November. The attacks have been staged against international shipping lanes vital to global trade.

The rebels, supported by Iran, justify their actions as a response to their conflict with Israel. Following the attack, Maersk suspended its Red Sea operations for 48 hours.

Earlier, US forces intercepted missiles aimed at another Maersk vessel. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, on social media, held Iran accountable for its role in supporting the Houthis and called for actions to prevent such threats, emphasizing their risk to lives and the economy.

Despite global efforts to ensure maritime safety, Houthi aggression persists, including recent missile and drone attacks targeting other commercial vessels and Israel. Shipping company MSC confirmed its ship, the United VIII, was attacked without crew injuries while traveling from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, highlighting the continued dangers in the strategic waterway.
