The Pentagon and UK Ministry of Defense emphasized efforts to minimize civilian harm and the strikes' self-defense nature. Supported by allies, this marks the eighth US and second joint US-UK action, following Houthi attacks on ships, which they link to Western and Israeli interests.

Despite previous strikes depleting Houthi missile supplies, the group, backed by Iran, persists in threatening international shipping.

The operation, under the name Operation Poseidon Archer, coincides with increased Western commitment to maritime security and humanitarian concerns, discussed by US President Biden and UK Prime Minister Sunak.

The Houthis justify their maritime assaults as retaliation against Israeli actions in Gaza.
