Universal Studios Acquires Bedford Brickworks for Theme Park Expansion
Universal Studios is considering developing a theme park on a 480-acre former brickworks in Stewartby, Bedfordshire.
The land, previously approved for building 1,000 homes, could transform into a Universal park and resort. Although the concept is in its infancy, the Universal team emphasizes its commitment to collaborating with the community and stakeholders during this exploratory phase.
It may take several months before Universal decides to move forward. The site's appeal lies in its excellent transport links, being just 45 minutes from London, and within two hours of the majority of the UK's population, as well as its proximity to Luton Airport.
Universal acknowledges the UK's dense population, thriving creative sector, and robust tourism infrastructure as key attractions for the project.
Meanwhile, Bedford officials, including Mayor Tom Wootton, express optimism about Universal's interest but caution that extensive groundwork is still necessary. The potential development promises significant economic boosts and aligns with Bedford's ambition for prosperity.
