Fake Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) signs that have been placed in various locations along the London and Hertfordshire border. These fake signs contain QR codes that lead people to fraudulent websites, explicit adult content, or unrelated content like the theme tune to the Wombles. The signs have been discovered and removed from places such as Rickmansworth and Croxley Green.
Hertfordshire Council has issued a warning, advising drivers and pedestrians not to access the QR codes on these fake signs. Official ULEZ signs from Transport for London (TfL) do not contain QR codes, and any payments related to entering the ULEZ zone should be made through the official TfL website.
Councillor Phil Bibby, Executive Member for Highways and Transport, expressed concern about scammers using fake ULEZ signage to direct people to fraudulent sites. The council is encouraging individuals to report these fake signs so they can be removed, and investigations can be carried out to identify those responsible.
Additionally, the council has reaffirmed its stance against the Mayor's ULEZ and the placement of TfL signs in Hertfordshire, advocating for TfL to reconsider the boundary and provide clear warnings to motorists approaching the zone within London.
