Ukraine is set to receive between fifty thousand and one hundred thousand shells in June under a Czech-led initiative. This effort, supported by multiple European countries and the United States, aims to bolster Ukraine's defense against the ongoing Russian invasion. This initiative primarily sources ammunition from outside Europe.
Czech envoy Tomas Kopecny revealed this during a NATO foreign ministers meeting in Prague.
Significant funding contributions have come from Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal, totaling 1.7 billion euros, to acquire 500,000 shells initially.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised the initiative, projecting it will deliver one million shells to Ukraine by the end of the year.
However, to keep pace with Russian forces, Ukraine will need 200,000 shells monthly over the next two years.
