All UK nations have yellow warnings for snow and ice. The coldest January night in 14 years is possible, with Arctic air keeping temperatures low. Scotland recorded -14C, the winter's lowest so far, with -15C possible.

England, Wales, and Northern Ireland registered lows of -11C, -8C, and -3C, respectively. BBC Weather predicts more snow and strong winds, leading to blizzards and travel difficulties in Scotland. Expect 5 to 15cm of snow in northern Scotland and 5 to 10cm in Northern Ireland.

Warnings include:

- Snow and ice in Northern Ireland and western Scotland until Thursday midnight.
- Similar warnings for parts of Wales and southwest England until Thursday morning.
- Eastern England's coast under a snow and ice warning until Thursday noon.
- Southeast England under an ice warning until Thursday 10 AM.

The cold has shut some Scottish schools and pressured the health system. Icy winds have lowered temperatures by 5C to 6C below average. However, conditions should improve over the weekend, albeit with strong winds and potential floods.

Households on specific benefits will get £25 payments due to the cold in over 220 postcodes. The system activates when temperatures drop below freezing for a week straight.

England faces 13 flood warnings and 62 alerts as of Thursday morning.
