A recent QS world university ranking highlights potential risks for UK universities due to ongoing funding challenges.

Imperial College London is ranked second globally, surpassing Oxford and Harvard but behind MIT.

However, 52 out of 90 UK universities saw their rankings drop, indicating broader concerns.

Ben Sowter, QS’s senior vice-president, warned of potential UK university closures due to funding policies and declining metrics such as staff-to-student ratios and job outcomes.

Prof Hugh Brady from Imperial called for policy reform to sustain high standards and highlighted the critical role of international students in funding.

Jessica Turner, QS’s CEO, emphasized the need for the next UK government to prioritize higher education funding.
