Alex encountered the press briefly upon returning from a shopping trip, expressing his excitement for the holiday season with loved ones. Confirming his safe return, Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle of the Greater Manchester Police emphasized the significance of Alex's reunion with family after such a long separation.

Originally from a spiritualist community in France, Alex's story unfolded when delivery driver Fabien Accidini found him in southern France. Alex shared with Accidini that he had been living in various locations, including Morocco and Spain, with a group since his mother took him. He expressed no ill feelings toward his mother but desired to return to his grandmother. Accidini facilitated contact with Alex's grandmother and awaited police arrival.

Following his return, Alex spoke of his transient lifestyle over the past six years but appeared in good health without signs of mistreatment. His grandmother, anticipating their reunion, expressed immense relief and joy at her grandson's safe recovery.
