The UK's statistics watchdog has cautioned the Conservative Party over Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's claim that Labour would raise taxes by £2,000, highlighting a lack of clarity on how the figure was calculated.

The Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) said the £2,000 figure, presented during a leadership debate on ITV, was misleading as it spanned four years and included data from non-Treasury sources.

OSR Chair Sir Robert Chote emphasized the importance of transparency and accuracy in political statistics, especially ahead of elections.

The Labour campaign coordinator criticized the Conservatives, while the Conservative Party has been asked for comment.
