Alongside the threat of violent conflict, he mentioned challenges arising from ideological conflicts and strains on democratic systems.
During his lecture at the Royal United Services Institute, Admiral Radakin questioned whether the internal mechanisms and mindset of the British state are up to the task of handling current global challenges, despite increased defense spending and military transformation efforts.
Referencing the volatile situation in Gaza sparked by the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and the drawn-out conflict in Ukraine, he suggested these are pivotal moments for worldwide security.
Despite not anticipating a direct war with Iran, which supports Hamas and opposes Israel and its allies, Admiral Radakin indicated Iran seems content with the current state of affairs.
Turning to Russia, he acknowledged that Ukrainian defenses had been more resilient than expected, while also noting President Putin's international isolation and economic difficulties. In stark contrast, he pointed to President Zelenskyy's positive vision of a "new" Ukraine, honoring its defending heroes.
