UK's Largest Businesses Form New Lobby Group, Challenge CBI

A new business lobby group, the Business Council, has been founded by some of the UK's biggest businesses, including Heathrow Airport, BP, and IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The group aims to represent the interests of large companies on issues such as digital transformation, people and work, net zero, global Britain, and the high street.

The CBI, a rival business lobby group, faces a challenge from the new group as many of its high-profile supporters have withdrawn their support due to allegations of serious sexual assault.

An extraordinary general meeting is taking place on Tuesday to determine the future of the CBI.

The CBI has the support of some companies, including Siemens, but the new group is seen as an opportunity for businesses to have a different kind of representation.
