The British government has formally removed the terrorist designation from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, a militant faction operating in northern Syria.

Officials said the decision followed a review of the group’s organizational structure and activities, which no longer meet the criteria for designation under UK law.

The move is expected to influence international diplomatic engagement in the region but has drawn criticism from some security analysts who view the group as still posing a threat.
