Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has issued an unequivocal apology in response to the public inquiry's report on the infected blood scandal.

The report revealed that 30,000 people were infected with HIV and hepatitis due to contaminated blood treatments, resulting in around 3,000 deaths to date.

Authorities were found to have covered up the risks, including importing high-risk blood from the U.S. and failing to screen for hepatitis for years.

Sir Brian Langstaff, chair of the inquiry, condemned the lack of transparency and accountability.

The government has committed to paying compensation to victims.
