UK Pharmacy Worker Jailed for Poisoning Partner and Using Bank Card for Shopping

A UK pharmacy worker who poisoned her elderly partner to use his bank card for shopping has been sentenced to seven years in jail. 53-year-old Lily Cartier administered stolen drugs into 71-year-old John Sharrard's meals, leading to his hospitalization. Convicted of poisoning causing harm and fraud, her actions were uncovered in 2017 after relatives noticed Sharrard's inexplicable deteriorating health.

Initially suspected of having Parkinson's due to muscle spasms and mental impairment, tests later uncovered anticoagulant warfarin and antipsychotic haloperidol in his body, drugs he had not taken voluntarily. Suspicion fell on Cartier, who had access to medication through her job.

Arrested in November 2017, police found haloperidol in Cartier's purse and warfarin in her home, alongside unauthorized transactions on Sharrard's bank card amounting over £6,000. Though Sharrard later died of unrelated causes, his brother condemned Cartier's heinous actions, while a police detective criticized her lack of remorse.
