The Home Office has confirmed that passport application fees in the United Kingdom will increase by nearly 7% beginning April 10, 2024. The cost of online passport applications for adults will rise from £88.50 to £94.50, while the fee for child passports will increase from £57.50 to £61.50. Furthermore, the fee for the one-day premium service application for adults will see an increase from £207.50 to £222.

Similar adjustments will be implemented for postal applications and those made from overseas.

This upcoming rise follows a comparable fee increase that occurred in April 2023, leading to a cumulative rise of approximately 15% in just over a year.

The Home Office stated that the new fee structure is intended to ensure the passport application system can operate on a self-funding basis, reducing dependency on general taxation.

Officials emphasized that the government does not generate profit from passport application fees; instead, these charges contribute to the overall costs of processing applications, providing consular support for lost or stolen passports, and managing the processing of British citizens at UK borders.
