UK Opposition Raises Queries About Akshata Murty's Dissolved Company

The UK Labour Party is questioning former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's wife, Akshata Murty, over her dissolved company, Catamaran Ventures.

A letter by Labour's Pat MacFadden to Deputy PM Oliver Dowden presses for details on the firm's closure and its impact on associated businesses, tax obligations, and government funds received, including £2 million from COVID-19 support schemes Sunak helped design.

Murty, the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, incorporated the firm in 2013 and served alongside then-director Sunak until his 2015 resignation.

Amidst discussions of taxpayer losses from failed investments and the future of companies like Study Halls, Murty has turned over company shares to charity.

Her previous non-domicile tax status, allowing tax exemption on her Indian income, was another point of controversy; she has since committed to paying UK taxes on her global income to spare her husband political distraction.
