UK households to see lower energy bills from autumn 2022 due to revised energy use figures

The energy regulator, Ofgem, has revised downward the average energy use of UK households, which will result in lower energy bills starting from autumn 2022.

The energy price cap, which limits the amount energy suppliers can charge, will fall again, with the cap for a typical household expected to be equivalent to £1,871 per year from October to December.

However, bills will rise again under the January 2024 price cap, and the average bill will still be "well above" historical levels.

The government's energy price guarantee scheme, which limited a typical household's energy bill to £2,500 equivalent per year, ended on Friday.
