The funding was announced at London Tech Week and will be distributed between several initiatives, including the Responsible AI project led by the University of Southampton, which will receive the majority of the funding.
The government has also launched a global conference to debate the regulatory "guardrails" that will mitigate future risks from AI, and the European Parliament has approved proposed AI regulation that could impose fines on companies that do not comply.
