Foreign ministers David Lammy of the UK, alongside his French and German counterparts, articulated their 'deep concern' over the situation, citing the critical nature of humanitarian access amid ongoing hostilities.
The joint statement emphasized that humanitarian aid 'should never be contingent on a ceasefire or used as a political tool,' reinforcing the necessity for continuous support to civilians affected by conflict.
The ministers underlined the urgency of maintaining a ceasefire, ensuring the release of hostages, and facilitating the unhindered flow of aid into Gaza.
They noted the alarming humanitarian conditions, declaring the situation in Gaza as 'catastrophic,' and highlighted the potential violation of international humanitarian law resulting from Israel's decision announced on March 2 to cease all goods and supplies entering the territory.
Furthermore, the ministers reiterated their call for the unconditional release of hostages held by Hamas and implored all parties involved to adhere to the ceasefire, proposing that this could pave the way for sustainable peace.
The statement advocated for the reconstruction of Gaza and a credible pathway towards a two-state solution, envisioning a future where Israelis and Palestinians coexist peacefully.
In their joint position, the UK, France, and Germany welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States aimed at extending the ceasefire and facilitating negotiations intended to implement the terms of a peace agreement.
