UK Food Prices Rise Slower Than Other Countries, But Still Higher Than EU Average

Food prices in the UK are rising at a slower rate than other countries, according to Government Minister Mel Stride.

However, UK food inflation is still higher than the European Union average and higher than many European economies.

The reason for this is due to three main factors: Russia's invasion of Ukraine, bad weather in Europe and North Africa, and UK labor shortages.

The prices of food imports may also play a role in the UK's higher food inflation.

The next set of UK inflation figures will be published on Wednesday.
