UK Court Rules Computer Scientist Did Not Create Bitcoin

The London High Court has ruled that Australian computer scientist Craig Wright is not the creator of bitcoin, known by the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto." Wright had claimed to have authored the pivotal 2008 bitcoin white paper.

The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), which includes Jack Dorsey's Block, contested Wright's claims to protect bitcoin's open-source status. During the case, Wright was accused of extensive document forgery, which he denied. The court's Judge James Mellor confirmed Wright was not Nakamoto and plans to provide detailed reasons later.

Wright's assertions of bitcoin authorship were described by COPA's lawyer as elaborate and fraudulent, involving large-scale forgeries and lawsuits against individuals based on his claims. In contrast, Wright's legal team insisted he provided substantial proof of his role in bitcoin's creation.
