UK Considers 'Transactional' Visa Policy to Address Migration
Starmer proposes linking visa access to cooperation on deportations
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the UK is exploring a more 'transactional' approach to its visa policy, potentially making visa applications more difficult for nationals of countries that do not cooperate in accepting deported citizens.
The proposal aims to address irregular migration by incentivizing countries to engage in return agreements and preventive measures.
The UK currently has 11 bilateral return deals, including with Albania, India, and Nigeria, which have contributed to a decline in asylum claims from those nations.
