Under the Online Safety Act enforced since October, platforms such as Instagram and YouTube are mandated to improve illegal content filtering and verification of user ages. These sites typically require that users be at least 13 years old.

Reports suggest the UK might intensify restrictions on social media for under-16s, potentially including access prohibitions.

Science Minister Andrew Griffith emphasized on Friday that the government aims to balance fundamental freedoms with parental control. He mentioned the possibility of a future consultation to discuss enhancing minor protection while maintaining adults’ internet freedom, though it remains speculative at this stage.
