UK Climate Minister Graham Stuart Resigns, to be Replaced by Justin Tomlinson

Climate change minister Graham Stuart resigned from the UK government after serving for eight years.
He announced his decision in a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, stating that it was the right time to step down.

Stuart intends to run as a Conservative candidate in the upcoming election, with the opposition Labour Party currently leading in polls.

Justin Tomlinson, a former work and pensions minister, will replace Stuart as climate minister.

Stuart faced criticism during last year's COP28 climate summit for flying back to London for a vote on asylum seeker policy while the summit's outcome was still uncertain.

Stuart, who had been supporting Britain's clean energy transition efforts as a minister, returned to Dubai before the summit ended.

In a letter, Sunak thanked Stuart for his service and acknowledged the demanding nature of the role, which he had held since 2016, including appointments in the climate, foreign, and trade ministries.

Stuart chose to step down from his position.
