The UK has formally approved construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk, backed by a $51 billion investment including funds from Canadian pension giant La Caisse.

The project is expected to generate low-carbon electricity for up to six million homes and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
