Uber revealed plans to include black cab bookings in its app starting early next year in London. A limited number of black cab drivers have joined, with the aim to onboard hundreds by January.

Black cab industry veterans have previously voiced worries about Uber's rise and its focus on private hire cars.

Steve McNamara of the LTDA criticized the move, stating no demand exists for such a partnership and insinuating Uber is attempting to revamp its struggling model.

Customers using Uber to book taxis will see an estimated fare but pay the metered price plus a £2 Uber fee. Uber will waive the commission for new taxi drivers for six months, leaving subsequent fees undisclosed.

Uber's UK head, Andrew Brem, touted the company's global partnerships with taxi drivers, emphasizing mutual benefits and efficiency gains for London's transport.

However, McNamara doubted any real demand from drivers or passengers, saying London taxis are successfully booked through other apps and suggesting Uber is exploiting black cabs to save its business.

BusinessLDN's Muniya Barua praised the initiative for its promise of increased travel convenience, consistent work for drivers, and enhanced business travel in London.
