The US State Department has removed the statement from its website asserting that it does not endorse Taiwan's independence.

This removal is part of an update to the department's fact sheet concerning Taiwan.

The updated page still emphasizes that Washington opposes any unilateral alterations to the status quo by either Taiwan or China, which asserts sovereignty over the island.

Furthermore, the page now mentions Taiwan's collaboration with a Pentagon initiative on technology and semiconductor development and notes that the United States will support Taiwan's participation in relevant international organizations.

Despite lacking formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, the United States remains the island's most significant international supporter and is legally bound to provide resources for its defense.

Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, rejects Beijing's claims of sovereignty and insists that only its citizens can determine their future.
