Two women tragically lost their lives in a serious five-vehicle crash on the M4 motorway in Wiltshire. The accident involved an overturned HGV lorry and four other cars, leading to closures in both directions at junctions 18 and 17.
Emergency services responded to the incident at around 9:10 am. Two women traveling in one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, and their next of kin have been informed. Two other individuals involved in the collision sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The motorway remained partially closed for an extended period to allow for recovery and investigative work, with long delays reported in the area. Heavy rain from Storm Babet added to the challenging road conditions.
