Two Men Charged with Spying for China: Parliamentary Researcher and Another Man Accused under Official Secrets Act

Two men, Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry, have been charged with spying for China under the Official Secrets Act in the UK.
They are accused of providing information to a foreign state that could be harmful to the enemy.

The Met Police stated that both men are charged with giving "articles, notes, documents or information" to China.

China has denied the allegations, calling them "malicious slander." Counter-terrorism police described the allegations as "very serious." The men were arrested last March in connection with the investigation.

Two parliamentary researchers, Mr. Cash and Mr. Berry, are under investigation for alleged sexual offenses.

Mr. Cash, who worked with the China Research Group and had access to several Conservative MPs including Tom Tugendhat and Alicia Kearns, is accused of offenses between January 2022 and February 2023.

Mr. Berry's alleged offenses occurred between December 2021 and February 2023.

The Counter Terrorism Command described the investigation as complex.

Two men in their 20s and 30s have been charged following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

The men were arrested on March 13, 2023, in Oxfordshire and Edinburgh, respectively.

The Met has collaborated with the Crown Prosecution Service throughout the investigation.

The police have asked for public and media restraint to allow the criminal justice process to proceed.
