The Metropolitan Police have announced charges against two men in connection with the murder of Anthony Littler, a Customs and Excise officer, who was found dead in May 1984. Littler, aged 45 at the time of his death, was discovered in an alleyway known as The Causeway, situated close to the East Finchley Tube station.

He sustained severe head injuries, leading investigators to believe he was the victim of a random attack.

The two accused, identified as Michael Stewart, 55, residing on Station Road in New Barnet, and Anthony Stewart, 59, from Old Farm Road in Finchley, were originally arrested in March 2022. They are set to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for their arraignment.

In addition to the Stewart brothers, three other men who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain under investigation as the inquiry continues.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its long duration, spanning nearly four decades, and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to resolve the circumstances surrounding Littler's death.
