Two Dead in Light Aircraft Crash at Darley Moor Racetrack in Derbyshire
Emergency services respond to the accident site as investigations commence.
Two men have died following the crash of a light aircraft at the Darley Moor racetrack, located near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, on the morning of April 8, 2025. The accident occurred around 11:30 AM local time.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported, with the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service confirming attendance at 11:25 AM. Firefighters from several units, including Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Nottingham Road, Staveley, and Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, responded to the crash site.
As authorities managed the situation, the scale of fire service resources was subsequently reduced, with teams from Ashbourne and Wirksworth remaining on site to assist Derbyshire Constabulary.
Derbyshire Police have communicated that family members of the deceased have been informed and expressed condolences during this challenging time.
A coroner's file has been initiated as part of the protocol following such incidents.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police have advised the public to steer clear of the area as emergency services continue their work on site.
