Two men have been arrested in London on suspicion of terrorism offences linked to the banned group Hezbollah, as part of an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

This action underscores a proactive law enforcement response to suspected terrorist activities both within the United Kingdom and abroad.

A 39-year-old man was detained at an address in north-west London on Tuesday, facing allegations of membership in a proscribed organisation.

Additionally, he is under investigation for preparing for acts of terrorism and involvement in funding arrangements supporting terrorism.

Simultaneously, a 35-year-old man was arrested at a separate location in west London on similar charges pertaining to membership in a banned group.

Hezbollah, which has been classified as a proscribed organisation by the UK government since 2019, faces scrutiny for its operations and influence.

The Metropolitan Police emphasize that terrorism has a worldwide impact and that the activities of such groups can endanger communities both domestically and internationally.

Commander Dominic Murphy, leading the Counter Terrorism Command, stated that the investigation remains active.

He emphasized the commitment to take decisive action against individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities, regardless of whether those activities are directed within the UK or internationally.

Following their arrests, the two men have been released on bail pending further investigation, with a court date set for mid-July.

In conjunction with the arrests, searches were conducted at five residential addresses, including two in north-west London, one in west London, one in south-west London, and one in Essex.

Police have indicated that there is no immediate threat to public safety at this time.
