The President of the United States announces a partnership involving OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle to invest in AI infrastructure, anticipating the creation of more than 100,000 jobs.
On Tuesday, U.S. President
Donald Trump announced a $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, a collaborative effort by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle.
The project, named Stargate, aims to construct data centers and generate over 100,000 jobs nationwide. The companies have pledged $100 billion for immediate action, with additional investments expected over the next four years.
Construction of the initial data centers is already underway in Texas, with the goal of supporting AI technologies for uses such as electronic health records.
Accompanied by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, Trump celebrated the announcement, with the executives attributing the initiative's realization to Trump's efforts.
The investment responds to the increasing need for specialized data centers required to support AI technologies, which demand substantial computing power.
Although this announcement is associated with earlier reports of a $100 billion project involving OpenAI and Microsoft, it's unclear if it is a continuation of that plan.
This announcement happens simultaneously with the rollback of former President
Joe Biden’s AI executive order.
Investment in AI has risen sharply since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, driving growth across various sectors.
