Triple lock for pensions to be in Tory manifesto, Jeremy Hunt says

Jeremy Hunt announced that the Conservative Party will maintain the triple lock on state pensions, ensuring increases match the highest of average earnings growth, inflation, or 2.5%.

This commitment aims to reduce poverty among pensioners by adjusting their income with the cost of living or wage increases. Despite the high cost of this policy, Hunt believes economic growth will cover the expense.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party is also in favor of the triple lock but hasn't confirmed its inclusion in their election manifesto. The promise comes at a time when inflation is decreasing, making the pledge more manageable.

In April, state pensions are set to rise by 8.5%. Critics label the move as an electoral strategy, with concerns about its long-term affordability amidst rising pension costs. The UK's inflation has recently fallen, alleviating some financial pressures, with expectations of interest rate cuts contributing to economic relief.
