Massive Delays at Major UK Airports over Bank Holiday Weekend Due to IT Issues
Passengers faced long queues at major UK airports over the bank holiday weekend due to problems with electronic passport gates.
The IT issue resulted in passports being checked by hand instead of the automated machines, causing delays of several hours at Heathrow and Gatwick airports among others.
Millions are expected to travel this weekend.
The Port of Dover reported on Saturday night that queues had cleared at the border after earlier IT issues had been resolved.
The Home Office stated that Border Force had put in place plans to minimize disruptions and wait times.
The UK government is also implementing an electronic travel authorization system for non-UK travellers to the UK.
