A British Airways flight attendant, aged 52, passed away on New Year's Eve in front of passengers right before the aircraft's departure from Heathrow to Hong Kong.

Just prior to takeoff, the flight attendant suddenly fell unconscious, leading a passenger with first aid knowledge to attempt resuscitation as the pilot urgently called for medical assistance, The Sun reported.

Despite efforts, the attendant was pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance Service, Metro UK informed. The flight was then postponed until the next day with a different crew.

British Airways expressed condolences to the late crew member's loved ones. This event marked the second such loss for the airline in a short period, following the discovery of another 52-year-old crew member deceased in his hotel room on December 23, which led to the cancellation of a Newark to London flight.

Both men reportedly showed no signs of underlying health conditions, leaving colleagues shocked and grieving.

Moreover, last year saw two more in-flight deaths: a 73-year-old woman suffered a fatal heart attack on a London to Nice flight, and a 25-year-old British man died from an asthma attack en route from London to New York, as reported by The New York Post. Despite receiving emergency assistance, neither could be saved.
